Underkeep Races (2026)
Six races are named in the developer posts: Human, Dwarf, Horemount, Raven, Elk, and Yah-Ti. Qualitative descriptions exist for three of them; no numeric trait values were published. The other three are names only.
| Race | What was published | Special rule | Note | Source status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Jack-of-all-trades (developer description) | 'The jack-of-all-trades, master of none, hero of many.' No numeric traits published. | 1 independent source · developer posts | |
| Dwarf | Named as a classic fantasy race; no trait, stat or mechanic detail has been published. | 1 independent source · developer posts | ||
| Horemount | Living granite body; Huge health pool; Hits like a falling anvil; Poor at riddles and magic scrolls | Developer presents the Horemount as the natural Warrior pick: 'big health pool, big hammer, small attention span'. | 1 independent source · developer posts | |
| Raven | Lizard mutant; Extra eyes; Acid spit; Spontaneous combustion | Random mutations, one set per Raven per playthrough; not chosen by the player | Developer: mutations are meant to be fun and unpredictable and 'may occasionally upset dedicated min-maxers'. Race traits were added pre-launch but direct trait selection is not planned. | 1 independent source · developer posts |
| Elk | Only the name is published. The 2025-04-28 post promised 'something Elf-adjacent'; linking that phrase to the Elk is an inference, not a confirmed statement. | 1 independent source · developer posts | ||
| Yah-Ti | Only the name is published; no homeland, trait or mechanic detail anywhere in the official posts. | 1 independent source · developer posts |
Horemount
The April 2025 post puts the Horemount in the frozen north and calls them living stone: a large health pool, heavy hits, and a poor fit for riddles and spell scrolls. The developer offers them as the natural Warrior. That is a suggestion, not a lock.
Raven
Ravens come from a toxic land and mutate at the start of a run. Extra eyes, acid spit, and catching fire are the examples the studio gave. Resistances and perception change between runs. The developer said the randomness will annoy players who want a perfect build. You do not pick the mutation, and you do not pick a list of traits at creation either. Race traits arrived before launch; a trait picker is not part of the plan they described.
The blank three, and the elf line
Human is the generalist, in the studio’s words. Dwarf, Elk, and Yah-Ti have no published strengths. An April 2025 line promised “something Elf-adjacent”. Treating Elk as that elf is a guess, so Elk stays a name. Dialogue lines change with race and class. That is the one mechanical hook that applies to every row.
Questions
How many races are in Underkeep?
Six names are public: Human, Dwarf, Horemount, Raven, Elk, and Yah-Ti.
Can I choose Raven mutations?
No. The developer said each Raven rolls a mutation set for that playthrough.
What does the Elk do?
Only the name is published. No trait line is on record.
